The National Bank of Romania (NBR), established in 1880, is the country’s central bank, headquartered in Bucharest. Its primary objective is to ensure and maintain price stability. NBR designs and implements monetary and exchange rate policies, supervises credit institutions, issues the national currency, and manages Romania’s international reserves. Since 2007, it has been a member of the European System of Central Banks.
